Motorsport Safety & Rescue – December 2012 report

Motorsport Safety & Rescue have completed an extremely busy 2012 with the five-day Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge in late November.

The multi-sport adventure race featured orienteering, kayaking and mountain biking and attracted a field of nearly 100 competitors, many of whom who had travelled from overseas for the annual event.

The event was taken out by Victorians, Jarad Kohlar and James Pretto, who dominated the event from the first day. Formula 1 star, Mark Webber, contested two days of the event, and also took part in a charity fun run on the final day.

MSR crews were very happy with their association with the adventure race. While there were a few call outs for athletes injured or suffering from dehydration, there were no major incidents.

“We really look forward to these types of events, and there’s a chance that we’ll do more of them in the future,” MSR’s Geoff Becker said.

“They are quite different from the normal motoring events we do, but it’s a good opportunity for our staff to further their experience.”

Looking ahead to 2013, the year is already looking to be a busy one for MSR, with the calendar filling up quickly.

The year will start with Targa Wrest Point in early February, the third round of the Australian Targa Championship. This will be the first of four Targa events for MSR during the year.

Also on the calendar are rounds of the Australian Rally Championship in Canberra, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales (to be confirmed), and the World Rally Championship round in Coffs Harbour in mid-September.

The week-long Australasian Safari will also feature on the calendar in September, with the Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge to conclude the year in late November.

These events will add to a very hectic corporate schedule throughout 2013, as well as a number of other state championship rallies and club events.
