2008 - Another Big Year!

The Motorsport Safety & Rescue Team has commenced the year's activities with two rallies completed to date.

The first event for the team was the tarmac event - Rally Tasmania. This event attracted 60 entries and whilst numbers were down on last year the quality of the field was exceptional in both the modern and classic sections.

The event was won by Steve Glenney and Bernie Webb in a Mitsubishi EVO 9 in the Modern Section and Cameron Wearing and Rebecca Cochrane in the Ford Capri in the Heritage Section.

There was only one major incident for the weekend when on the second last stage of the event Klark Quinn and Natasha Denise in a Subaru Spec C collided with a bank at high speed. The driver suffered rib fractures and the co driver - an arm injury; both are making good progress and are looking forward to competing in Targa Tasmania.

The event required seven Medical FIV's and two Technical FIV's to cover the event which was coordinated by Scott Clarke and Dr Matthew Croxford from the team.

Following the event the team conducted a rescue training day in Launceston with guests Dane Goodwin - NSW Ambulance Rescue and Garry Muldoon from PT Rescue spending time with staff updating them on latest rescue techniques.

The next event covered by the team was the Cerberus Rally in Victoria, this is a round of the Victorian Rally Championship and required three FIV's to provide coverage.

This event was incident free.

The next event for the team is the Quit Forest Rally with a team of fourteen staff providing coverage to the first round of the Australian Rally Championship.
